About the Trust

The Trust was set up by John Pinder in 2000 and its achievements and current projects are listed on this website.

The objects of the charity are to support and promote studies of federal government whether within or among states, including studies of processes that may lead towards the establishment of such government, and to support or promote education and dissemination of knowledge of these subjects.

Federalism remains on the agenda both in the European Union which the UK has now left and as a possible solution to the awkwardness resulting from asymetric devolution within the United Kingdom.

The Trust is registered as a charity with the Charity Commission. John Pinder’s original intention was that it should have a relatively short life of ten years as the capital he gifted was used and run down to achieve the objectives set out above. It has lasted much longer due to astute investment and to favourable movements in the market. The Trust was relaunched in 2015.

The Trust now has a long-term planning horizon and has strategies in place to secure income and thus support for achieving its aims. Feedback from readers is welcomed and we are happy to reply to messages or questions.
